What is a Customs Broker?
Under the Mexican Customs Law (Art. 159), a Customs Broker is defined as: "The Individual authorized by the Ministry of Finance through a License, to handle on behalf of third parties the clearance of goods under the different regimes provided for in this law." In other words, the Customs Broker IS THE CUSTOMS LOGISTICS EXPERT who legally represents importers and exporters before customs authorities, in order to carry out the clearance of their goods, ensuring proof of tax payment and compliance with non-tariff regulations and restrictions. This allows goods to be imported or exported in an agile, legal, cost-effective, and secure manner.
The Customs Broker is an element of transparency within customs management. As a partner to the authorities, the Broker facilitates and secures operations, serving as a bridge between the public sector and the more than 80,000 importers and exporters in Mexico.
The Customs Broker is both an agent of the Rule of Law and an agent of Competitiveness — that is, an ally of the authorities and a driver of Mexico's economic development.
